Sad for Italy
It's the first time I've ever cried at an election result: Berlusconi got in again. That makes me sad. Sad for Italy, sad for Italians, just sad. Our ex-pat votes weren't enough this time.

They... we have the political class we deserve: horrible, corrupt, incompetent and crass.
Nothing seems to ever change, and if it does it's at such a slow pace people rarely get the chance to realize there has been progress at all. Until they lose it, that is.
A famous now deceased journalist once said Berlusconi was going to be Italy's medicine against himself: after a 5-year mandate, the people would have gotten rid of him.
That was in the early 90s.
That journalist was a clever man, but he clearly underestimated how inherently weak and dishonest Italians can be.
I must say, I didn't like the opposite side much better. I wouldn't even call that a Left. The Right, this Right winning the election is definitely the worst outcome, but what really really scares me is the terrible lack of options.
And I'm not talking figuratively when I say I'm scared.
