My new old furniture is here. I am excited.
The delivery guys were wonderful; courteous, in uniform and so so careful. The only reservation I had about buying furniture off eBay was getting it delivered. But no more! If you see a perfect armoire for your reticules in Oxford or an old vestry cabinet to hold your fascinators from Long Melford then don't hesitate.
These are your men.
Only one of the pieces needs attention (the dresser base) but as that is a paint job I am not too worried.
Excusing my crappy cameraphone pictures....
I have the base of an old Victorian dresser for our tech cupboard. The TV will sit on top:
The panelling on the doors matches the design of the paneling under our windows. Neato.
This little beauty of an Edwardian chest will hold my underwear, no more will they reside stuffed in with my gloves and fripperies. No doubt I will have to utter today "Oh Mr Darcy, not over the writing desk! The chest is much sturdier."*
The armoire is an old Victorian linen press. That will house all our folded clothes.
Don't they all look lovely now they are all in their right place? I adore the big old iron keys that came with them too.
Oh, here is the finished desk in daylight:
Don't worry that radiator isn't on and is shortly to be sent to the great radiator scrapheap in the sky. The new one will reside elsewhere so the desk can go back against the wall. Or back against the massive 40cm high skirting more like.
Now back to the housework, I have a guest tonight...
*That's one down Riss.

They are truly things of beauty - and quite a change from the retro furniture in your old flat - do the two styles sit well together?
I love the armoire, and the dressmakers dummy... I've always wanted an armoire, but I think we need higher (and not sloping ceilings) for that.
We got our bed off eBay - it's a corker. French upholstered sleigh bed circa 1900.
Kate - I am giddy too and it's not the wax fumes!
RG - Our 50s/60s furniture sits really well with the Victorian. Just call me eclectic. I hate matchy matchy anyway. When we first viewed this flat everything was taupe and matched. It looked like a Next catalogue. Something to avoid me thinks. Glad you like the tailors mannequin, it was my indulgence from 'Caravan' in London.
Gamba - Gwan, you know you want to.
